Giles decided before he had even taken ownership of his little yellow Jimny, that some audio upgrades were desperately needed. The stock 4” paper speakers and lack-lustre infotainment screen was not going to cut it listening to Pink Floyd, Dire Straits and other classic rock albums - so with just 400kms on the clock, we were handed the keys.
There needed to be clarity, a good sound stage, and some decent bass - but cabin space is a premium here so we were asked to keep everything compact and hidden (…. so maybe the wife didn’t notice either…)
Project scope
It was a no brainer for us.
In went our custom-produced Kenwood 9” head unit upgrade kit, our Audison front speaker upgrade with direct-fit tweeter pods, and a teeny-weeny Focal Impulse micro amplifier to power the system.
For the low-end, a pair of Focal’s amazing ISUB TWIN dual under seat passive subwoofers was chosen so there was zero impact to the rear seat footwell space. These are also driven by the Focal Impulse amp.
To help eliminate unwanted external noise, we treated the doors to our Stage 2+ door treatment, with Morel Acudamp 227 deadener and STP Biplast acoustic insulation foam.
